Book Study: The Power of Positive Thinking

Hey all! I'm Jesz, and I am so excited to get started on reading this book together. This week begins the reading of the first chapter, so everybody grab your books and get started! The chapter isn't too long, so even if you don't have your book yet, you've still got time.

Tonight (Sunday, March 8th) at 9pm Central, I will be on the live web chat, at least audio if not video as well, to discuss the introduction to the book (latest edition, if you've got it, if not we'll share the different intros we're reading!) and to talk about what we all hope to get out of the study. Jason has been wonderful in setting up live video chat, for up to six people, but you don't have to have a camera to watch and chat, so don't let that stop you!

I look forward to seeing everyone online tonight, and to reading your comments in the future!

Have a peaceful and positive day!
Jesz

I think it'd be awesome to share what we want to get out of the book study, so I'll go first!

I'm hoping for several things. First and foremost, I want to make connections with other NGU members, and I'm especially glad we've got this great region-specific site to do the study on, since I may end up seeing you guys at retreats and conferences and other events.

The other thing I hope to get out of the study is a respect for the effects of thought. The book we're working on is "The Power of Positive Thinking," and positive thinking has never been my strongest suit. I'm very skilled at acting on way (nice, polite, etc) while thinking negative things. I'm hoping to grow and develop beyond the need for that in my life, and get to where I can think productive, positive thoughts that will help me and those around me.

My motto for this book study is "Peace and Positivity." That's what I want participants in this study to get out of chats, replies, sharing their own thoughts, and reading the book. That's what I hope to share with everyone who joins in, whether as a regular participant or just someone who shows up to chat along as we discuss what we've read. I hope you join me as we begin what is sure to be an amazing path.

So what do you hope to get out of it? Let's hear it! :-)

This book has been an good influence on me in that past. It's one that can be read over and over and benefit every time. Hearing others thoughts and ideas on the book's message will be very insightful and honest. Negative thoughts suck! Sometimes I get into this dark spiral where nothing seems to go right. As I come back to Spirit centered thinking, I know it's my thoughts that bring me so much pain. My intent for studying the Power of Positive Thinking is to remind myself of the light and good that is always present. Peace!

Hi all!

So, I've done a few workshops and I've been telling everyone about this online book study and they all seemed to think it was a really cool idea! However, they weren't sure about the weekly commitment.

I think it's a really cool way for NGU'ers to connect and although i know it's getting off to a slow start, I think it's a great concept.

How would you feel about simply picking a topic per month (rather than starting with an entire book study chapter by chapter where people need to follow along). I feel like the book study is a larger commitment, whereas, if you pick a topic (could even be a topic from the book), and choose to discuss that topic once per month, I think you may get a better response and it can build. Once it builds, you can then have a core group who may commit to once per week to do a more in depth study.

We could even post a forum or we could post a survey of what 'topic' people would like to discuss. This would be a really innovative way to bring people together from all over. I think it has a lot of potential.

I noticed you didn't do the book study this past Sunday, so I wanted to touch base and let you know my thoughts. I really support you doing this. Perhaps we just need to rethink how we do it :)

Everyone, let me know whatcha think!

Thanks,
Jason
